Jack White - Love Interruption

This time last year, The White Stripes announced that they were throwing in the towel. The band split up in order to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band. Now a year later he has announced that he is releasing his first ever solo record 'Blunderbuss' in Spring. Love Interruption is the first new piece of music from his solo debut and is a much laid back affair and stripped back affair (with the notable absence of a drum kit) than previous efforts. It begins with an introduction similar to that of Dusty Springfield's hit single 'Son Of A Preacher Man'. Then follows 2 and a half minutes of great lyrics, harmonies and musicianship that would put the best singer-songwriters in their place. Bliss.

About mainstream as it gets from the biggest breakthrough pop act of 2011. Sounding like a mix between Katy Perry's 'Last Friday Night' and P!nk's 'Raise Your Glass'. So it's perfect for commercial radio but not for my musical taste.

Lower Than Atlantis - If The World Was To End

"If the world was to end would I plummet or ascend or would I even know it had happened". Quite appropriate lyrics considering that, according to the Mayan calendar at least, the world is going to end in December. I don't think it will but if it leads to more bands creating well written superb rock music such as LTA's new single, then bring on the apocalypse!

Cover Drive - Twilight

Twilight, the brand new song from the four piece band Cover Drive, went straight to the top of the UK Singles Chart last week, and frankly it's hard to see why. With an inattention seeking chorus which is visible 2 seconds into the song and a lousy attempt to try and sound South American (I know they are from Barbados but it doesn't feel like a natural sound for them). Definition of a throwaway pop song. 

Sub Focus - Falling Down

The new single from English electronic music producer Nick Douwma otherwise known as 'Sub Focus', is a concoction of a infectious beats, massive drops, great vocals and classic dubstep 'wubs'. Dubstep done properly.
